edit this banner is an interactive web work which deals with the most common commercial form on the internet, so called banners. Usually banners which are bought on web pages, present aggressive, money dependent and highly controlled web spaces.

this banner gives you an ad hoc intervention into the e-business world. it lets you recreate the banner itself by clicking on it and submitting your text, choosing the layout and animation and also submitting the hyperlink which the banner will then follow. the new banner with "your" content is then visible to everybody online, until the new "creator"/surfer comes and changes it. the installation consists of standard banners / dimensions 468X60/ which are placed on one or more web sites. also, on its homepage www.editthisbanner.net there are instructions about placing the banner on other web pages.

the goal of the project edit this banner is to play with the relationships
between public vs private on the internet and with the question of environment control, terminated by advertiser. it allows for an ad hoc intervention into the highly structured e-business world in a way that is accessible to the end user, without changing the standard form of the banner. the space which is usually reserved only for commercial purposes, becomes accessible to "anyone", and the banner content and hyperlink become dynamic and unpredictable in its accessibility. the banner which announces the call for changing itself is than absurd and very usable way of self commencing on the internet, but at the same time, anarchic space of "hyperlink graffiti".
