Conceptual Summary
In a time of constant immigration, tension between ethnic
groups is greater than in the past, different cultures come
in contact with each other every day, mingling to create new,
stimulating, and complex mixtures but, at the same time causing
conflict.
Different groups (nations, ethnic groups or generations)
move simultaneously and all carry different moral values,
traditions and different ways of interpreting life, relationships,
politics and religious beliefs. Some of these positions may
be in harmony with the other and some in contrast. Moral values
which can find full expression through making new converts
and are transmitted in various ways: daily behavior, teaching
children, through the mass media, political campaigns as well
as the cruelest genocide, wanting to prove racial supremacy
and religious wars.
In the northern part of the world religious wars and knights
no longer fight. The use of modern technology and new methods
of marketing religion, has given channels by which faith is
distributed in ready to install kits. Each kit comes in the
familiar packaging of common software products. It is easy
to use, can be adapted to use according to today’s trends,
needs or interests. Up to date, easy to use versions are sold.
This is the underlying concept behind Plug
'n' Pray: religion is no longer a mystic experience
or a personal journey but an easily transferred consumer product.
What does Plug'n'Pray
mean?
The Plug'n'Pray concept
borrows its name and reinterprets the famous idea behind "plug
and play" technology. PnP is a synonym for easy hardware
installation and hassle-free software set up that allows you
to immediately start using a new HW device or SW application.
"Play" becomes "Pray" - your conversion
is instantaneous, smooth and seamless.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
High-tech religion and religious technology. When wired belief
becomes a religious asset. Find out how new media and technology
interact and interlace with religion and superstition. Discover
how technology (both high- and low-) helps and supports religion.
PRAY BY WIRE hunts
for photos and pics taken from real life that illustrate this
curious, and at the same time widespread, relationship.
An image gallery / exhibition is one of the initiatives we
want to realize to promote the Plug'n'Pray site, English version
(online from September 2003). This project aims at gathering
works and contributions from all over the world, with the
idea of setting up a dedicated site and organizing an international
exhibition in London and Amsterdam, during Spring 2004.
The images can be personal interpretations of this phenomenon
or straightforward documentary. They can be ironic or they
can just portray objects and memorabilia. The content is up
to you, but please remember that we will only accept photos,
so no computer art please.
