PAIRINGS (1998-1999): Each of these photographic
pairings is composed of two images. One, shot in February
1998, depicts the deserted military architecture of Forts
Baker, Barry, and Cronkhite in the Marin Headlands above
San Francisco. The other, shot in July 1999, focuses on
the abandoned resort architecture of Mullet Bay on Saint
Marten in the Caribbean. They are large color Cibachrome
prints mounted on Plexiglas.
Grady Gerbracht will gather images on his journey to Jezevo.
These images will focus on everyday details in the architecture
of the detention center and resorts along the coast. The
photographs will be presented so that each image from
the detention center is paired with an image from the
vacation resorts. The pairing of images from these disparate
contexts establishes a mirroring between the migrations
of tourists and illegal immigrants.
